TECHNOLOGY WITH PURPOSE

Technology is one of our fastest growing industries. Cell phones, tablets, computers, wearables, apps and the Internet are shaping not only how we live, but also the quality of our lives. As Challenge Partner SAP knows, technology can be a means to connect people, enrich the human experience and bring resources to all. But, some question whether technology can harm individuals when misused or overused — and whether we are missing ways to more effectively use technology to support health and well-being.

SAP invites you to think about technology and its impact on youth.

  • How do you and your friends use technology, and in what ways are you hampered by it?
  • How might technology be used to help improve your health and well-being?

Choose a Challenge Question and reimagine using Technology with Purpose to harness all of its advantages while avoiding its disadvantages.

TECHNOLOGY WITH PURPOSE QUESTION 1:

What innovation or solution could you develop that helps youth reduce their addiction to phones and increases face-to-face interactions with their friends and others, without losing their sense of connection online?

Presented by

TECHNOLOGY WITH PURPOSE QUESTION 2:

How could you harness the power of technology to develop a solution specific to your own community issue(s) related to youth health and well-being?

HUNGRY FOR CHANGE

With the world’s population expected to hit 10 billion people by 2050, the UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 to “end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture” resonates globally and locally. Humanity’s success depends on adequate, consistent and healthy nutrition. With food production as part of their mission, our Challenge Partners are using their resources to help achieve Goal 2.

When you look around your community, can you find examples of food insecurity? Maybe you see food production or delivery processes that harm the environment. Do you see ways to help your community with those issues?

If so, take on one of the three Challenge Questions in this category!

HUNGRY FOR CHANGE QUESTION 1:

By working with partners, how can you help to ensure that everyone in your school community has access to healthy, nutritious foods, including dairy?

HUNGRY FOR CHANGE QUESTION 2:

What transformative change can you ignite in your school community to positively impact food production? What specific local problem or issue have you identified and how would you solve it?

HUNGRY FOR CHANGE QUESTION 3:

How could you innovate to recycle, reuse or reduce pizza-box waste in your community? Choose one of three innovation challenges:

  1. Get more people to properly recycle pizza boxes.
  2. Change the pizza packaging and delivery model.
  3. Utilize upcycling (using the boxes to create something new).
